The IRS Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee released its 2026 annual report with 18 recommendations aimed at improving electronic tax administration and taxpayer service. Six recommendations were directed to Congress, including tax simplification, authority for IRS regulation of non-credentialed tax return preparers, predictable IRS funding and continued technology modernization enhancements. Recommendations to the IRS focused on technology and data sharing, AI and human-centered design, digital filing and payments, taxpayer outreach and fraud prevention. The committee said these priorities support efficient tax administration, improved taxpayer experience and stronger protection against tax-related identity theft and cybercrime.
