San Francisco certainly is expensive. According to 24/7 Wall Street, a USA Today content partner, San Francisco/Oakland/Hayward is the third most expensive area in the US with the cost of living at 24.7% higher than the national average. Monthly living costs for a family of four are calculated as being $12,370. Only San Jose and Santa Cruz are more expensive.
