The IRS has issued a Whistleblower Alert highlighting concerns about the misuse, diversion or fraudulent use of federal funds by tax-exempt organizations, individuals and businesses. The IRS encouraged the public to provide information related to potential noncompliance and noted that the alert is part of ongoing efforts to identify and address fraud. Additionally, the IRS indicated that these alerts are intended to focus attention on high-risk areas and connect with individuals who may have relevant information.
Further, the IRS explained that the Whistleblower Program provides monetary awards of up to 30 percent of proceeds collected based on information provided by whistleblowers. Individuals are encouraged to submit specific and credible information using Form 211, Application for Award for Original Information. Moreover, the IRS noted that additional Whistleblower Alerts may be issued as new areas of concern arise and reminded the public that reporting tools remain available through IRS online resources.
